The QI Petrophysics team brings to bear its vast experience in quantitative interpretation for risk analysis & mitigation through insight from thorough well & seismic integrations to provide its clients with sound science always based in quality and integrity. Dr. Carr, Together with Dr. Christopher J. Murphy, P.G., leads the scientific team utilizing their combined 40+ years of worldwide experience which stems from working for a mixture of major oil companies and services companies. The operation and business development activities are handled by Brian D. Carr, who founded QI Petrophysics, LLC with Dr. Carr.
Meet the Team:
Dr. Matthew Carr, P.G.
Managing Director, Science & Technology
Dr. Carr is the Managing Director and founder of QI Petrophysics,
LLC. Dr. Carr received a M.Sc. and Ph.D.
with distinction in Petrophysics from the Department of Geological Sciences, University of South Carolina, USA. In addition, Dr. Carr possesses a B.Sc. in
Geology from Old Dominion University. Following graduation from USC Carr joined
Amoco Production Company. During his
career with Amoco, and BP, he worked almost exclusively in the seismic rock
properties strategic technology applications team. The position was focused on providing
expertise in rock properties to mitigate exploration risk. After leaving BP Dr. Carr joined a start-up
company, (Rock Solid Images) to build the petrophysical services group. While at Rock Solid Images, he directed their
world wide effort of petrophysical integration with geophysical data for
seismic reservoir characterization. Dr.
Carr possesses expertise in the integration of Petrophysics and Seismic Rock
Properties, Rock Physics, Sandstone and Carbonate Petrology and its relation to
Petrophysics, Petrographic Image Analysis, Interpretation of Nuclear Magnetic
Resonance Data in Natural Porous Media, as well as Multivariate Statistical
Analysis of Geologic Systems. Throughout
Dr. Carr's career he has pioneered several techniques and applications for the
integration of well data and seismic data.
He jointly holds a patent for the use Neural Networks on well logs and
seismic data for reservoir characterization.
Dr. Carr is a certified Professional Geophysicist from the State of
Texas, as well as being an AAPG certified Professional Petroleum
Geophysicist. Dr. Carr has taught
industry courses in Rock Physics, and the application of Rock Physics for Well
Log Analysis for integration with Geophysical data. He is a member of the American Association of
Petroleum Geologists, the Society of Professional Well Log Analysts, the
Society of Exploration Geophysicists, and the Houston Geophysical Society.
Dr. Christopher Murray, P.G.
Senior Petrophysical Advisor & Partner
Dr. Christopher J. Murray is an independent consulting Petrophysicist
who has worked with QI Petrophysics since it was founded. Dr. Murray received a M.Sc. and Ph.D. with
distinction in Petrophysics from the Department of Geological Sciences, University of South Carolina, USA. In addition, Dr. Murray possesses a B.Sc. in
Geology from State University of New York in Plattsburg. Following graduation from USC Murray joined
Exxon Production Company. During his 9
years with Exxon Dr. Murray provided petrophysical expertise in diverse
projects in Exxon's world-wide exploration efforts. In 2005 Dr. Murray left Exxon to peruse
independent petrophysical projects. Dr.
Murray consulted with Rock Solid Images for several years. Dr. Murray possesses expertise in the
integration of Petrophysics and Core Data, Sandstone and Carbonate Petrology
and its relation to Petrophysics, Petrographic Image Analysis, Interpretation
of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Data in Natural Porous Media, as well as
Multivariate Statistical Analysis of Geologic Systems. Dr. Murray has taught petrophysical
integration for geologic applications throughout the industry and in
academia. He is a member of the American
Association of Petroleum Geologists, and the Society of Professional Well Log
Analysts.
